May 5 – Sixteen players remain in the mix at the 2014 Gateway PGA Match Play Championship taking place at Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, IL.
The No. 1 seed, Mike Suhre of OakBrook Golf Course advanced and faces Jason Woods on Tuesday morning. Nash Haxel of The Quarry at Crystal Springs will battle another veteran of the Gateway Section, Rob Sedorcek of the Country Club of St. Albans.
Brian Fogt, fresh off his sweep of the regular and senior divisions of a recent Section Pro-Open, will square off against another of the top Senior players in the field in Jeff Whitfield. Whitfield advanced after defeating Fox Run Golf Club’s Dennis Biedenstein.
Chase Smith defeated Mark Faulkner, 4&2 and now gets Tom Sipula with the winner getting the opportunity to face the winner of Fogt or Whitfield.
On the bottom half of the bracket is the No. 2 seed and recent winner of the Publinx Open, Bob Gaus who plays J.D. Auping in the round of 16.
The winner of Gaus / Auping will face the winner of Ryan Roy and Jeff Escott. Both Roy and Escott enjoyed easy victories on Monday winning their respective matches 6&4 and 6&5.
JC Anderson also enjoyed a relative easy walk around Annbriar Golf Course on Monday winning 6&5 over host professional, Kevin Schaeffer. Anderson will play Scott Brauer in the round of 16.
Jimmy Bals defeated Shane Blankenship 4&3 on Monday and faces Ty Zimmerman of the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club who knocked off Executive Director, Josh Riley in their first round of the championship.
