USGA to announce final action on proposed changes to rules of golf

The USGA’s final answer on anchoring is nearly at hand. The game’s governing body in the United States sent out a media advisory to say it will address the issue Tuesday at 8 a.m.

“On Tuesday, May 21, 2013, the United States Golf Association (USGA) will host a news conference to announce final action on proposed changes to the Rules of Golf,” the release said. “The news conference will be televised live on the Golf Channel, and will feature several USGA leaders.”

USGA President Glen Nager will be on hand along with Executive Director Mike Davis and Mark Newell, the chairman of the rules committee.

The USGA announced jointly with the R&A on Nov. 28 a proposed ban on anchored putting strokes. A 90-day comment period followed.

If the ban is enacted, it is to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2016.
